Week 7 Art

Week 7 Art

 Monday:

On Monday I took my camera/phone outside and took some photos using the rule of thirds. The rule of thirds helps for composing photographs. It places your image to the left or right third of an image which creates two-thirds to be more open. This can help your image stand out and draw your eye to the subject of your image. I took a photo at each point marked out on the rule of thirds grid and I also took one where the subject was in the center.

Tuesday:

On Tuesday I watched a video on how a histogram works and how to use it when editing an image. This is what I learned:

A histogram is a type of graph that measures the brightness and darkness of an image. On the left, it has darker tones, whereas on the right it has lighter tones. Everything in between ranges from dark tones, mid-tones to light tones. The more that the histogram is in the center, the less under or overexposed the image should be. If it's more to the left it might be underexposed and the more it's on the right it might be overexposed. It can help to show how much detail is being lost if your image is too under or overexposed. The number of the histogram runs from 0 to 255. 0 meaning it's completely black and 255 meaning it's completely white.  This can help show the brightest and darkest point in your image and how much is there/or has been lost. Histograms can also be created for certain colors such as red, blue, green, etc in your image or certain tones such as shadows, etc.

Wednesday:

On Wednesday I watched a video talking about levels and curves and how they can make your image better. This can help create a good exposure in your image. Curves and levels are similar but also different. Curves can give you more control in editing your shadows, highlights, and mid-tones separately. Whereas levels only have three control points which are black, white, and midpoint.
