Ancient Egyptians invented lots of things like medicines, mathematics, wine, toothpaste, door locks, clocks, paper, pyramids etc.

Clocks:
The first clock made was around 3,500 BCE, the Egyptians used the shadow the giant stone obelisks cast on the ground to tell the time of the day.

The Egyptians would use their slaves to build the pyramids. They built the pyramids as tombs for dead people and for the pharaohs (their gods) and for their queens. The most well-known pyramid was built for pharaohs, Khufu. Pyramids were built for religious reasons and they believed in the afterlife.

Stone Age Art

Stone Age Art

Why did they create art and what did it represent?
I think they created art so they could tell stories of what it was like in the stone age and I think it represents their life stories and how they got around in their life.

The stone age tools?
They would create tools out of stone and wood and they all had different meanings. They made tools for digging which had handles made from wood, they made tools to hunt and cut meat these were made from carved stones.

Our recreation of stone age art:

What we did?
The first step was to collect lots of sand, then to smear PVA glue all over the walls so that the sand would stick. After they threw the sand all over the wall and then spray painted it to kind of make it look like a cave.

We then got to paint our own stone age art pieces on the walls using our fingers or sticks. We used the designs that they used in the stone age and painted all over the walls.

Hour/most used devices Bu 2019 + Cell phone evolution

Hours/most used devices Bu 2019
In social we have been learning about technology and how long we spend on our devices over the weekend. The highest time was 43 hours for 1 person and the lowest was 5 hours for 1 person.

The first graph shows which are the most popular/used devices in the class of Bu 2019. The phone is the most used which was used for 176.3 hours over 2 days with 23 people. The tv was used for 82.7 hours, the computers were used 61.45 hours, PlayStation/Xbox was used for 32 hours and pads/tablets were used for 26 hours. This shows that the most used device was the phone.

The second graph shows the most common time people use their devices. The average time was between 5-15 hours and the least was below 5 hours. There was a decent amount who spent more than 15 hours on their devices. This shows that people are on their devices for around 5-15 hours over 2 days.

We also learned about the evolution of cell phones and had to make a timeline about it. The first phone on my timeline is the brick phone which was created in 1973 and the last one is the iPhone 7 which was created in 2017. The difference between these phones is so crazy. The brick phone you could only call for 30 minutes and it took 10 hours to charge whereas the iPhone 7 can take photos (front and back), is water-resistant and has its own wireless charger.

Art Techniques

Why are we learning these techniques? Why are we doing this?
I think we are learning these techniques to help us make a series of artwork. It helps us learn different ways of making textures and colors for different artwork pieces.

Essay: Should Plastic Bags Be Banned From Supermarkets?

Should Plastic Bags Be Banned From Supermarkets?

Would you want to live in a world full of pollution? I think plastic bags should be banned from supermarkets because they can be very dangerous for the environment and can cause harm to animals. Most people always just leave plastic on the ground and never put it in bins so if we reduce the use of plastic, it can help make the environment better. Plastic bags can cause pollution, affect wildlife, and damage our water.

Plastic bags can cause so much harm to our environment and is causing pollution. For example, when plastic bags are thrown away they get into the soil and release toxic chemicals which can cause air pollution and make it toxic to breathe. When plastic is burned it can get into our air and cause environmental pollution, this can cause respiratory problems in humans and animals. Only 1 percent of plastic bags are returned for recycling and around 80 percent of the ocean’s plastic pollution enters the ocean from land. Plastic can also get into our water and cause plastic pollution in the water which can then harm marine life. I think this needs to change and we should start looking after our environment better.

The plastic on our land and in our oceans have started to harm and kill our wildlife. When plastic bags get into our ocean and on land animals mistake it for food and end up eating it. When the animals have digested the plastic it then cannot be digested and stays in the animals. Plastic can also get caught around marine life and hurt them. Around 100 million marine animals are killed each year because of plastic. I think this is really sad and without marine life, it can have a negative effect on climate change.

Many rivers and streams around the world carry around 1.15 million tons of plastic into the ocean each year. Plastic can pollute water which can make it really harmful to drink. The plastic in the water can release toxins which are harmful to digests. This can cause breathing problems and can cause issues with the human body. If we stop selling plastic bags and reduce the use of plastic this wouldn’t happen.

Plastic causes pollution, kills our animals and can even damage our water. Instead of using plastic bags we can use paper or fabric bags. If we stopped selling as much plastic it can help make the environment clean again. If we are going to use plastic, instead of throwing it in the sea or land we can reuse it and recycle it. There are bins made for plastic to be recycled.
