Art Term 4 Week 4

 Art Term 4 Week 4

My theme for art is the past vs present. I am using females in my household to show the difference between the olden days vs the present days.

Over the past 4 weeks I have been working on 3 different pieces of work for board 1. I have taken inspiration from Ava Seymour who takes people in black and white and puts them in coloured backgrounds. The style of her people that she uses have big bobble heads and usually look like little families. I decided that for piece 2 and 3 that I wanted to draw the heads for the ladies. They are all family members. I then photoshopped their faces onto butterick sowing pattern bodies and made them black and white. The photos I decided to use for the background are photos from when my house was first built in 1980. For piece 2 and 3 I have added a transparent background of lace and crotchet. Piece 1 I have used the youngest members from the family timeline and have also photoshopped the faces onto butterick sowing pattern bodies. To show the difference of past vs present I have kept them in colour as-well as the background.

My next steps are to do one more piece with the same image from piece 1 but the image will be the house now. I am also going to get my sisters together to stand in the same position.

Art Update (Board 1 Complete)

 Art Update Term 4

Board 1 Complete

My theme for art is the past vs present. I am using females in my household to show the difference between the olden days vs the present days.

Over the last couple of weeks of term 3, I have been working hard on completing all my artworks for board 1. The main artwork I had to complete was my family timeline inspired by Dick Frizzell's Mickey to Tiki. The Mickey to tiki artwork starts off with Mickey Mouse fading into a red outline turning into a Tiki. To interpret this into my artwork I decided to do a family timeline starting with my nana (the oldest) ending with me (the youngest). I went and outlined every person on the timeline with a red felt and then with a sewing machine I stitched a red outline around the head. To connect everyone together I decided to use the excess string and glue them to each person showing a connection. I really liked how this turned out and I fell like it will be a very important piece on board 1. This timeline also can help start board 2 (present).

Art Update Week 8

Art Update Week 8

This week I had been focusing on finishing my board 1 and then starting board 2. My theme is females in my household (past vs present).

The latest drawing I have done is of my ballet jewellery box which I'm going to put next to the drawing of the cabinet. I wanted to do it in black and white (pencil) because I want it to relate to the olden days when photos weren't in colour or tv weren't in colour.

My artist inspiration for my board has mainly been focused around Sofia Minson. I love the way she has a realistic centrepiece with a solid, flat background. It makes the centrepiece stand out.

For board 2 my artist inspiration is going to be Ava Seymour. I love the way she has the background in colour and then the people are black and white and has weird features.

My next step is going to be to complete board 1 (I need one more art piece at the bottom of my board). I'm also wanting to start onboard 2 by doing some photography.

My newest drawing of a jewellery box

These are some of my favourite pieces of Ava Seymour's artwork:

I like the way she has used the photo as the background of the artwork. Instead of doing the bobblehead people, I'm going to intertwine Sofia Minson's artwork by using pencil drawings of realistic people.  My plan is to take picture/collect pictures of my family members houses from the past and drawing "realistic" people into them to represent Sofia Minson and Ava Seymour.

Rendering Internal (DVC)

Alayna Mintrom

AS91066

https://www.nzqa.govt.nz/nqfdocs/ncea-resource/achievements/2019/as91066.pdf

In level 1 DVC we are doing an internal on rendering our bottles. At the start of the year we had to design our own bottle. In our internal we had to draw our bottle 2 times and do 3 different materials. The yellow and blue design is a clear bottle, the pencil design is a metal bottle and the purple and green design is a solid plastic.

What did you like? I liked that we got to do colouring in. I also liked that it was on our bottle because we are used to drawing our bottles so it wasn't hard.

What didn't you like? I didn't like that the green and purple together. Also, the yellow colour was a little hard to work with.

How do you like it? I think it turned out okay. I like the pencil one the best.

Any thoughts or feedback?

Level 1 Art, Term 3 Week 2 Update

Level 1 Art, Term 3 Week 2 Update

I am focusing on females and how things have changed (olden days vs modern days).
I like this theme because I can learn about the past and learn more about how things have changed.

My first art piece was of my great aunty (born 1934). This was actually the reason why I changed from doing wildlife enderangerment into olden days vs modern days. My artist inspiration is Sofia Minson and I decided to have flat, patterned backgrounds to incorporate her style into my art. I have also added gold to my art because it adds more dimension.

For my second art, I wanted to find something that I could add a flat background to. I found an image of a lady sitting on a stool but changed it to look more like it was taken in the past. I also like that instead of painting the woman I did a pencil drawing and painted the background. I changed the pattern on her dress to make it fit my theme more. For the background, I wanted something that had unique shapes and a pattern that I could add more than 1 colour to.

What wasn't working: My first theme that was wildlife endangerment. This didn't work because I struggled with coming up with ideas of what art to do.

What is working: I like doing the pencil sketch and then doing the flat background with paint.

What is my next step: Im going to try complete my second artwork by this week.

The ones with the hearts are the ones I have completed

First part to my second drawing of the woman on the stool

Final artwork of my great aunty

Im going to add one more coat of paint and then some gold foil and it will be finished

Level 1 Art Update Term 2

At the start of this year, my art theme was animal endangerment. I really struggled with finding ideas for this art theme so I decided to change mine. I'm focusing more on females and have changed my theme to how things have changed (olden days vs modern days).

For my first art theme, I came up with an idea to draw a turtle with the shell as a melting world. I added hexagons to the background to represent the shell of the turtle. I also made the hexagons red/orange to represent the sun melting the world because of climate change.

My second art theme I have completed a piece on my great aunty who was born in 1934. It was a younger photo of her and for her hair. I took inspiration from Sofia Minson's art and added it to mine. She has a very realistic looking person with a flat background with patterns to make the person stand out. Instead of adding the flat pattern into the background, I decided to add it into the hair and leave a white background. For her hair, I also added gold foil, so that there was a bit more dimension. I wanted to choose more warm colours because I think it added more contrast to the pencil drawing and not everything was dark. I'm thinking of doing one bored more olden day styled and the second bored more modern-day so I have also started another piece on a woman sitting on a stool. I like photo inspiration for this because I felt like the outfit she was wearing, was something that lots of people wore in the olden days. I changed the pattern of the dress a little because I didn't want there to be too many patterns so I made it more simple. Also to incorporate Sofia Minson into this art piece I have decided to draw her with a pencil and add a patterned background.

Jessica Meth Paragraph

Jessica Meth Public Service Announcement

In the public service announcement, Jessica we see the harmful effects of drugs. This is seen when she was taken advantage of by her drug dealer. For example, her drug dealer raped her and abused her. This wouldn't have happened if she hadn't taken meth. This can also lead to negative consequences throughout the short film where she forces her brother to smoke meth with her. We see that her brother is young because of the way the director used the playground to show that, that's where he likes to hangout. The purpose of this is to show us how the negative effects don't just affect her but the people around her. Because of her mistakes other people have to deal with the consequences such as her brother. This also relates to Walk The Line because when Johnny Cash is taking drugs we see the negative effects it has with him and the people around him. Johnny was high on drugs and started to go crazy. The relationship between his wife and kids starts to go downhill, relating to the divorce of Johnny and Vivian.

English Slidedeck (Film Aspect)

Slidedeck English Film Aspects

What is Auteur Theory?

Auteur is the french word for author and auteur theory is where the idea of the director as the primary author or artist of a film reflects the director's creative vision. You can spot the directors creative vision through style, stories, subject matter etc. The director wielders their camera like how a writer uses their pen. It’s an easier way to simply show and establish that the movies were an art form and to show the directors creative vision. You can understand directors artist voices through the patterns they use in their work.

What is film theory?

Film theory is breaking down movies and television. Breaking down films can help you understand and analyze them. The key elements film theorists use are a type of film, shots, angles, lighting, colour, sound, editing, and mise-es-scene. The three types of film are realism, classical, and formalism. Realism focuses on the real. Classical focuses on moments between real people, for example, Lone Survivor and The Godfather. Formalism focuses on the director creating fake realities. Shots, color, angles and lighting all create different moods and emotion. There are two different kinds of sound: diegetic which is the voices of characters or pros, and non-diegetic which is added sound effects or narrator's commentary. Editing is to make the story fluid and work as a guide for the audience. And last mise-es-scene which is a French word meaning ‘placed on stage’. Everything that is on camera and how it is arranged on screen. Mise-es-scene can be broken down into four different categories. Placement around frame, face to camera, territorial place, and frame constraints.

Why do we look deeper into movies?

We analyze them for stories, performance, technique, meaning, purpose, and historical importance. Studying movies isn’t always about liking or disliking, loving or hating, good or bad. They are emotional pieces of art. Understanding how movies work can manipulate your emotion or how the story is told. This can help you understand things such as history, economic, class struggles, race, and gender inequalities.

Critical Thinking
We think critically about a lot of different movies. It's about thinking deeply about how the movies works. It's about understanding, deconstructing, feelings, and learning.

Week 6/7 Art

Week 6/7 Art

The artist model I have used is Sofia Minson. Sofia Minson uses patterned, flat backgrounds in her artwork. I used this as an inspiration to create my background. My background has hexagon shapes representing the turtle shell. The colours for the hexagon are warm tone colours like red, orange and yellow. I used these colours because I want them to represent the sun and I also want to use the hexagon shape throughout my other artwork. The inside of my turtle is the Earth which is melting from the sun due to climate change.

My focal point: I want my focal point to be the turtle. I'm going to do this by having the turtle shaded by pencil or charcoal, whereas the background is going to be more vibrant to make the turtle stand out.

My Kaupapa is climate change and my subject matter is animal endangerment. I'm going to use a hexagon shape to tell a story as well as using warm colours but I also want to add cool tone colours as well. Using the hexagon to relate back to the turtle and using the warm colours to relate back to the sun/heat. I want to use cool tone colours to relate back to water/cold.

Level 1 Art - What is my art Kaupapa?

This year in art I will be focusing on animal endangerment as my Kaupapa. For my subject matter im going to base it around climate change.

I have chosen this theme as I really love animals and I think its important to keep them safe. I think animals are really important to our Earth.

The media I will work with are Paint, Magazine art and possibly photography.

The artists I have selected for 1.1 are: Robyn Kahukiwa & Sofia Minson from List one. From list two are: Shepard Fairey & Claude Monet.

My Mood-board

My artist focus for 1.2 and 1.4: I really like Sofia Minson because I like the way she uses the flat, patterned backgrounds.

My Theme:
I really like my theme because of the way I love animals. I think I can use this theme to spread awareness of climate change.

Ideas of drawings I could use

Planning my theme

I want to use fire, animals, nature as my subject matter. I want to use these because I think it can help me tell a story of my art and it relates to climate change.
