Art Week 10

 Art Week 10

Monday:

On Monday using my series and sequences one which is placed at the top of my folio plan, I used a basic level edit to edit my images and then placed them back onto my folio plan.

Tuesday:

On Tuesday, using my first artist model Fiona Pardington I looked at the way she edits her images and applied that effect to my editing. I find that a lot of her work has a very dark contrasted background compared to her focal points. Her focal points are normally very light and have very light colors.

To create this effect on my image I played around with the different curves and also selective colors on photopea. Selective colors allowed me to edit the main focus of the image to be lighter and not as vibrant which is what Fiona Pardington does in the artwork above.

Dark background, the main focal points are very light and have warm tones

Over the Weekend:

During the weekend I took out my camera and decided to recreate Sally Mann's photograph that is on my mood board.

My Recreation

I liked how my recreation turned out, although the background isn't the same, I think it turned out well. I also think my image is a little bit more over-exposed and would look better with darker shadows and more contrast.

Also taking inspiration from Sally Mann, I also decided to create an image showing the changes throughout the years. For example, my model was dressed to relate to the vintage days (1940s), then she was dressed to look like the 80s using bright, bold colors and finally she was dressed to relate to nowadays (2020) which I think worked together really well. I took 3 different images and edited them together to make them look as if it was 1 image.

Art Blog 5 (Annotated Sketches)

 Art Blogpost 5

My theme for art this year is changes throughout the years. My artist models are Fiona Pardington, Man Ray, Jasmine Togo-Brisby and I also wanted to use Sally Man.

Fiona Pardington

Jasmine Togo-Brisby

Man Ray

Sally Mann

I created annotated sketches of all of these images using different points such as focal point, leading lines/framing devices, use of color, use of repetitive elements, space, and balance.

Man Ray
The face is the main focal point, the face is used as repetition which guides
the eye and emphasizes the focal point, grey tones are used, the image has dark greys
and light greys which create contrast.

Sally Mann
The girl is the focal point, the washing line creates a leading line toward the girl
emphasizing that she is the focal point, the background is very dark against the washing of the girl's clothing which creates contrast.

Jasmine Togo-Brisby
The background is a dark color, the circle is a white tone and the focal point is a silhouette which creates contrast, the framing of the circle helps draw the eye to the main focal point, the circle has a repetitive pattern throughout the background.

Fiona Pardington
Leading lines are used at the top of the image where the bird falls which leads your eye directly to the focal point which sits underneath the falling bird, the background is very dark whereas the focal point uses light, warm tones which creates a nice contrast and balance of colors, space and balance helps to create equal visite weight or equalizes the focal points.

Art Week 9

 Art Week 9

This week I have been working on planning my first folio board. My theme for art this year is changes throughout the years so I've taken inspiration from my artist models to create plans for my board.

My 3 artist models are Fiona Pardington, Jasmine Togo-Brisby, Sally Mann, and Man Ray.

So far I have planned my series and sequences to fit on my board like this, but as I photograph more photos for my board I may change this to fit better with my other images.

I have used my artist models to make plans for what I want to be on my board. I think these photographs from my artist models will work really well with inspiration for my theme. For my bottom image plan, I have taken inspiration from Sally Man's “Untitled, At Twelve Series (Jenny and the Bedspread) 1984”. I think the idea of having a person relating back to the olden days, the 80s, and modern while doing the washing will show the changes throughout the years really well.

Over the weekend I'm planning on taking the images of my plan so that I can place them on my folio plan to see how they look and what I need to change.
