Shot Put

Shot put

In athletics training 2019 I think the event I have improved most in is shot put because at the beginning of training I wasnt using the correct footing and I was throwing the shot put instead of pushing it.
Now after training, I have learnt most of the correct footing and I know to push the shot put instead of throw it.

The Underground Railroad (Harriet Tubman)

The Underground Railroad (Harriet Tubman)

Why have you researched Harriet Tubman and the underground railroad?
I have researched Harriet Tubman because in Social Studies we have been learning about slavery and Harriet Tubman was a person who lead hundreds of slaves to their freedom.

What is my poster about?
My poster is about the underground railroad and Harriet Tubman.
It has facts from when Harriet was born and the songs she sang. It also has facts about what the underground railroad was and how slaves got there.

What was the slave trade triangle?
It was a system set up so they could trade guns for slaves. So that the slaves could make money for the Europeans and so that they could do their work.

What was the first passage?

What was the middle passage?
The Middle Passage:
Taking the Slaves back to "India" on the boat. Once they made it to the USA they were auctioned off for money.

Anaerobic Respiration

Anaerobic Respiration

Aim:
To demonstrate the effects of anaerobic respiration

Hypothesis:
I think the more we do it the more our fingers are going to get sore.

Equipment:
A spring-loaded clothes peg

Method:
  1. Hold the clothes peg so that the bit that clips on is open
  2. Relax your fingers so that the peg closes all the way
  3. Squeeze your thumb and forefinger so the peg is fully open
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 as quickly as possible until you experience muscle fatigue
Results:
It took around 60 seconds before my fingers got a little sore and then so on.
I noticed that the more and more I did the experiment the more my fingers got tight and tired.

Conclusion/Discussion:
My fingers started to go tight after a while and also went tired. This is because the muscle in my fingers weren't used to going that fast and the faster they went the more sore it made them. I used up all the energy in my fingers and there wasn't enough oxygen in my fingers to make more which also made them more tired and sore.

Evaluation:
I think it all went well because nothing bad happened only that my fingers got sore but that's what I expected to happen.

Triple Jump

Triple Jump

Why did I choose to write about this event?
I chose to write about this event because I feel like at the start it was my worst event but now that I've practised a bit I feel like I have improved a little bit.

Explain the proper technique for this event?
To do this event you will have a run up then you will hop then step on to the other foot then jump onto to feet into the pit.

Have I improved in this event?
I think I have improved because at the start I would always get confused but now I have gotten better. If I go slower and think about it more I can end up doing it in the correct technique.

How could I improve more?
If i think about it more and practise more.

What is another event you would like to work on/improve?
High Jump

Perishable and Non-perishable

Perishable vs Non-Perishable

Perishable: Food that is liking to go bad quickly

Non-Perishable: Foods that don't require immediate refrigeration and can be stored for a long time without going bad.

Why is understanding the correct storage for food important when it comes to these food types?
Because you don't want your food to spoil quickly and if you put it in the correct placing it might last longer.

What is the impact that storage has on bacteria?
Depending on where you place your food it could either kill the bacteria or could make the bacteria worse.

Places where food is normally kept:
Fridge
Freezer
Cupboard

Chicken and rice patties

Chicken and rice patties

Ingredients:

  • Jasmin Rice (3 cups cooked/1 cup uncooked)
  • 1 chicken breast
  • 1/2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 carrot
  • 3 spring onion stalks
  • 1 1/3 cups grated mozzarella cheese
  • 3 eggs
Method:
  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees Celsius
  2. Slice chicken breast in half widthways, so that it will cook through quicker.
  3. Heat olive oil in a medium frying pan and cook chicken until it begins to brown.
  4. Remove from pan and shred the chicken using a fork and set aside.
  5. Grate carrot so you have around 1 cup
  6. Finely slice the spring onions.
  7. Lightly beat the eggs.
  8. In a large bowl add cooked rice, chicken, carrot, spring onions, eggs, and around 3/4s of the grated cheese and mix well.
  9. Spray muffin trays with cooking spray then spoon mixture into the trays and top with extra cheese.
  10. Place in oven for 15 minutes or until the tops turns golden brown.
  11. Let them sit in the trays for a few minutes before removing to racks to cool. Use a knife to work around the edges for easier removal. This recipe made 12 chicken and rice patties.

In our first home ec practical, we made chicken and rice patties.
We made sure to mise en place (Prepare everything and get set up) before we continued with anything.
I learnt the making chicken and rice patties isn't actually too hard and was very fun for our first time.
I think my group worked together really well because we all had "jobs" and if someone needed help we would help each other.
I think next time I will take photos of what we made.

Home Economics 2019

Home Economics 2019

What makes a good and bag blog post?

Good: Making sure that it makes sense and that you have added what you need to add. Adding pictures so it makes it a bit less boring and so that's it bright and fun.

Bad: When it doesn't make sense and its all placed in different orders and when it looks messy.

Mise En Place:
Setting everything in its place.
Preparing everything and getting everything set out.

Safety around a fire in a room:
Name the 2 fire safety equipment we have in the room: A fire blanket, and a fire extinguisher.

Explain how each is used. With the fire blanket, you have to be careful and you just placeit onto of the fire to make it go out.

Why do you not try and blow out a fire?
When blowing on fire the oxygen can cause the fire to get hotter and burn faster.
It can also make the fire grow bigger.

What are the three things you should try to do when putting out a fire?
Place a wet cloth or towel on the fire.
Throw baking soda or salt on the fire. (Not Flour)

Use a fire extinguisher or fire blanket.

Tarzan

Two Worlds One Family

What does it mean to you?

I think it means that no matter where you come from you will always have a family,
doesn’t matter where you’re brought up, or who you are brought up with you will have a family.
Just because someone’s not blood-related to you, you can still be their family.

A message from the movie Tarzan is to accept people even if they’re from a
different culture, religion, etc. This is because everyone is human and everyone needs to havesomeone that cares about them. We saw this in the scene where Kurchak finally accepts
Tarzan to be in his family and to protect over them and become the leader of the pack.
This makes me think that even if you’re not related by blood you can still be family.

A message from the Tarzan is to treat animals and nature with respect.
This is because animals and plants are living things and without trees, we would have air to breathe.
We saw this in the scene at the end where Clayton gathers up people to come and kill the gorillas.
Tarzan and Jane came to help protect the animals and nature and help them survive.
This makes me think that animals and nature are so pure and that without them life wouldn’tbe the same.

Human Rights

Human Rights

In Social Studies we are learning about human rights, the rights we have as humans.
We had to make a poster listing all the human rights and design it how we wanted it to look.
We also had to rank down the human rights that we thought were most important from 1 to 10.

Questions:

What are you learning so far?
All the different rights we have as humans and how many people actually use.

What is the most interesting thing you have learnt so far?
That even though one of our human rights is slavery people still are made as slaves in different countries.

Explain what your work is and how it links to the topic?
My work is about all the different human rights we have and my second piece is what I think is most important from 1 to 10. This links to the topic because it shows that I have been learning about human rights.

Shading

In art 2019 we started off the year with some shading. We watched this video that helped us to learn the correct shading and how to make it look more realistic.

  • Have you improved your shading? Yes, I think I have because after watching the video it taught me how to add shadows in properly and that to build up your layers of darker colours instead of just adding them straight away.
  • Do you understand that using a structure can help you draw better? Yes because it helps us get the proportions right and so we know where we need to add details. It helps us know where we are going to draw.
  • What are you going to work on going forward in pencil drawings in and out of class? I think I want to work on different techniques of shading to try and improve my realism.
