A peeler is a kitchen tool a metal/steel blade with a handle. It is used to remove skins/peels of vegetables and fruit.
The peeler blade normally has a slot, one side that is sharp to peel the skins and one side to stop blade going into the food as you peel.
Blunt vegetable peeler blades can be very dangerous as they can slip more than sharp blades.
Veggies peelers can peel carrots, cucumber, apples, mango, potatoes, kiwi fruit and pears and more.
The vegetable peeler was invented in 1947.
The peeler was invented by Alfred Neweczerzal of Davos, Switzerland.
The peeler has a swivel-blade for gliding over bumps
The peeler has a potato eye remover on one side of the peeler from the opposite side from the swivel-blade.
The handle sometimes has this black covering for grip and safe using.
There is a hanging loop at the end or on the peeler for convenient storage.
There are more than 1 type of veggie peelers.
Euro Peeler is a sleek and stylish design that makes peeling fruits and vegetables simple. The Euro Peeler features a swivel head blade constructed of tough, rust-resistant steel. The peeler handle provides a sure, comfortable grip.
A Y peeler is in the shape of a y and is a can go through the toughest of all fruits and veggie skins with ease and has a really good handle grip. It has a wider handle which is better than thinner handles and has more of an easier grip and doesn't slip even when your hands are wet.
The swivel peeler kinda looks like an Euro peeler but can go through tough skins and doesn't waste and of the fruit and veggies and is very sharp.
A fixed blade knife, sometimes called a sheath knife, doesn't slide, and is pretty stronger, and lack of moving parts. A fixed blade is typically not a peeler but its very sharp and could cut fruit and veggies if needed.
Reasons why we need vegetable peelers are that it doesnt take as long if you were using a knife. It doesnt cut all the good vitamins out of the Veggies. We won't cut ourselves and if you’re in a rush you dont have to worry about making a mess and taking forever.
