Aim:
To separate the different pigments in inks or dyes using paper chromatography.
Equipment:
- Ink from maker pens/food colouring/ ballpoint pens
- 250mL Beaker
- A strip of filter paper
- scissors
- pencil
- water
Method
|
Cut your filter paper into a strip like this |
|
Put your thumb at the end of the filter paper and draw a line like this |
|
Then add 2 dots using colored makers like this
|
|
Fill your beaker up with water but only add a little bit
|
|
Place your filter paper into the beaker like this and fold the excess paper over the beaker |
|
Wait for it to rise and should turn out like this. |
