Separating Mixtures


Aim:
To separate a solution from a precipitate (a precipitate is a solid that forms a liquid)

Equipment:

  • Lead Nitrate
  • Potassium Iodide
  • Conical Flask
  • Striing Rod
  • 250mL Beaker
  • Funnel
  • Filter Paper
Method: 

  1. Put Safety Glasses on.
  2. Pour 10mL of Potassium Iodide and 10mL of Lead Nitrate into a 250mL beaker
  3. Fold a piece of filter paper in half 2 times and open it up on one of the sides to make it into a cone shape.
  4. Place the cone filter paper into a funnel and pour the liquid through the funnel into another beaker.
