Sonja Delaunay
Sonja was originally born in Ukraine in 1885 but was known as a French artist. Her husband Robert Delaunay was a famous artist as well. When she was 5 she moved in with her uncle and they raised her after that.

Orphism:
It was an offshoot of cubism that was more focused on brighter colours and pure abstraction.
Orphism is also known as Orphic Cubism which is a short-lived art movement. It was originally made by French painters Robert Delaunay, Sonja Delaunay and Fernand Leger.

This week in art we have been studying and drawing some Sonja Delaunay artwork and created our own. We drew our own drawings on some paper and then split them into two drawings and redrew them on some lino. We started to cut them out as well.

First drawing on lino |
Second drawing on lino |
Learning Outcome:
To have an understanding of Sonja Delaunay, Orphism, colour theory through linocut printmaking. Having an understanding of leading lines and focal points.
Our Learning Process:
To research Sonja's artwork and to create some thumbnail sketches. We researched facts about Sonja Delaunay. We created some inspired artwork by her and coloured them in to make them pop. We then started to add them to our lino.
What would I change?
I would flip the drawing I drew on the lino because at the moment when I print it will face to opposite way to what I have drawn it in colour.
Thanks Alayna. I like the pieces of work you chose of heres, this is all exactly as I asked :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat. thank you :-)

DeleteThis is exactly what I asked for and I am thankful you did it. It shows a considered programme of study. I think you will re evaluate whether it works the other way around or not, once you make your prints happen. I look forward to seeing your work as a print.
