Aboriginal Boomerangs

Aboriginal Boomerangs
In Social Studies we have been learning about the aboriginal culture and their art. A fun way to end this topic was for us to design our own boomerangs and have a throwing contest. We each got our own boomerang and had a chance to design it ourselves. We researched aboriginal art ideas to help us get inspired.

My meaning behind my design was never giving up, make it to the top. The blue lines represent waves and then the red is human tracks and then the yellow is the star.

Throwing our boomerangs

Colours and Shapes:
Yellow: Growth and sun
Red: Blood, desert and sand
White: Sky and clouds
Blue: Nature and water

My Food Bag Semester 1

My Food Bag Semester One (Vegetarian Tacos)

Who was your profile target?
My profile target was for a family of 4 that are vegetarian.

What was your recipe decision based on?
I wanted to make something that was a bit different and not just something plain but I also wanted it to be something I knew I could make.

Ingredients:
½ onion, chopped finely
½ sweet potato, chopped and peeled
½ eggplant, chopped
½ can chickpeas, drained/rinsed
1 tomato, chopped
12 tablespoons water
¼ cup chopped coriander
50 grams of cheese, grated
¼ cup sour cream
Taco sauce

Taco Shells

Recipe:
Heat a large frying pan with a little oil and cook onions on medium heat until soft.
Add Kumera cubes and taco flavouring and cook for 10 minutes to cook Kumara stirring occasionally.
Add chickpeas, tomato, and water and simmer for 3 minutes or until the mixture thickens.

If needed warm the taco shell etc. Add hot mixture into the shells, top with grated cheese and coriander. Serve with a side of sour cream.

Explain why this recipe was chosen to do?
I think this recipe was chosen because It wasn't just plain and simple but it was also fun to make.

How it fits into the nutritional model of the dinner plate?
I think this fits in because it got lots of healthy veggies and it also has some protein.

What changes did you make during the 2 practise practical sessions?
I added coriander because it adds more flavour and I also added more taco powder for more spice. Chopped the vegetables smaller so that it would be fully cooked and not so big.

What were the positives about your final practical?
Everyone enjoyed it because it had nice flavours and textures and it also was a bit different to some other dishes.

Describe 2 things you have learnt this semester?
I learnt all the different types of food you need and what they do to your body.
I also learnt how to set up a workspace that is safe when working with food.

Character strenths (term 2)

Character Strengths Term 2:

This character trait was shown in A silent voice when the boy was being mean to the deaf girl but then he thought about what it was like to be in her shoes. This shows that you should always think about how other people feel. If you are being mean to someone you should think about how it would feel to be in their shoes.

This character strength was shown in the Hunger Games when Katniss volunteered as tribute to save her sister's life and risk her own. This shows if you love someone enough you will do anything for them.

This character trait is shown in the book Children of blood and bone when Zelie wouldn't give up. Even though she could die she wanted to make sure that everyone could get their powers back even if it cost her life. This shows that even if times get tough you should always push yourself and others and be a team leader.

This character strength was shown in Spiderman Homecoming when Peter Park (Spiderman) saved all the people for the Washington Monument. This shows that kindness can come in many ways and can even save peoples lives.

This trait was shown in the movie Frozen when Onna forgave Elsa even though she lied to her and ran away. She knew that Elsa intentions weren't bad and she was just trying to protect everyone. This shows that there are always 2 sides to every story and just because something might look bad doesn't mean the person was trying to be bad.

This trait was shown in the Hunger Games when Katniss was inside the arena even though it was hard and she had to kill lots of people, she never gave up and persevered and won. This shows you don't have to be strong or fast to win something.

Children of Blood and Bone Essay

Children of Blood and Bone Essay

Shouldn't we all be treated fairly, we’re all humans. In the book Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi, a memorable idea is seeing everyone as human beings. This idea is shown in the three different scenes I'm going to use. Chapter 39, when Inan uses his power to see Zelie’s memory, chapter 47, Zelies asks Inan why he fights for a man who will always hate him and chapter 79 when Zelie looks into Inans eyes and sees him like the shell of a little prince.

An important idea is seeing everyone as humans. This is shown in chapter 39 when Inan uses his powers to see Zelies memories. “Its like seeing her for the first time, the human behind maji. Fear embedded in pain, tragedy caused in father's name”. In this scene, I think Inan is starting to realise that the maji are important and that they are still human. He sees that even though they have magic that they have gone through so much pain as well as them. I think this links back to when white and black people wouldn’t get along just because they had different skin tones, they thought each other were bad. But in the end, it turned out that we are all the same, and that the good people overpower the bad.

The same idea is also shown in chapter 47 when Zelie asks Inan why he fights for a man who will always hate him. “You fight for a man who will always hate you just because of what you are”. In this scene, I think it relates back to “seeing others as human beings” because at the start Inan hated the maji but now he's starting to connect with Zelie and realising that shes the same as everyone else. It shows us that Zelie understands that we are all human. I think this links back to when people think gay people aren't the same as everyone else and that they have to love the opposite gender, but love is just a feeling and you should be able to love anyone you want.

The last scene that fits into this topic is chapter 79, Zelie looks into Inans eyes, she sees him like the shell of a little prince. “Inan’s amber eyes trap me in the truth of his betrayal, but it isn’t the gaze I know. He’s a stranger. A soldier. The shell of the little prince”. Again this also shows that Zelie and Inan are starting to connect even though they are from two different places. Inan grew up being taught to hate the maji. Whereas Zelie is apart of the maji and is always being told what to do from the kingdom. Even though they are from different places they know to respect each other for what they are. I think this links back to when you meet a new friend and you're starting to get to know them for who they are. At first, it’s just what you want to think of them but once you get to know them, you get to see who they really are.

An important idea is seeing others as human beings. These last few paragraphs have shown us what it’s like to see others as human beings. “Its like seeing her for the first time, the human behind maji. Fear embedded in pain, tragedy caused in father's name”. “You fight for a man who will always hate you just because of what you are”. “Inan’s amber eyes trap me in the truth of his betrayal, but it isn’t the gaze I know. He’s a stranger. A soldier. The shell of the little prince”. This shows that if we see everyone for who they are, we can learn to connect with others and see them like everyone else, human beings.

Corrosion Experiment

Corrosion Experiment

Aim: We are investigating whether or not different liquids will cause corrosion to the nail.

What is corrosive: Corrosive is the breaking down of a metal. Corrosion is caused when metal atoms react with their environment

Liquids we are using with the nail:
Nail polish+water, oil, saltwater, calcium chloride+water, magnesium+water, water

Hypothesis:
Oil: I think the oil will cause corrosion to the metal because it can cause the metal to rust if the moisture diffuses through the oil.
Nail polish: I don't think that the nail polish will cause corrosion because it's like a protective layer to the nail so that it doesn't rust.
Saltwater: I don't think the metal will rust when in the salt water because I think that the salt will protect the nail.
Calcium Chloride: I don't think the metal will corrode in the Calcium chloride.
Magnesium: I think the metal will rust because magnesium is a light metal and isn't really protecting the nail.
Water: I think the water will cause corrosion with the nail because it's just water and there's nothing to protect the nail from rusting.

Results:
Oil: Out of all the solutions the oil caused the less corrosion and the metal didn't rust at all.
Nail Polish: The metal only rusted at the top where the nail polish wasn't on.
Saltwater: The metal corrosion the most in the saltwater and there was lots of rust.
Calcium Chloride: The metal didn't rust much but there was still a little bit at the bottom.
Magnesium:
