Board two completed update

My theme for this year is changes throughout the years (1930 vs 1980 vs 2020). For my board 2 my theme focuses on the 1980 aspect of my theme. When finding inspiartion for my theme, I looked at different art styles and photographs that were taken in the 1980s. Some I found had lots of bright pops of colours but also some had a very orange tinge and quite grainy. I wanted to incorperate both of theme into my board. I also found that lots of walls in houses had floral type wallpaper so I also wanted to include this into my board.

This was my moodboard for board 2:

When finding ideas for what I wanted on my board, I saw this polaroid image and really wanted to incorperate it into my panel. From my research I found that polaroids were quite popular in the 80s so I thought it was be very fitting. This image by Richard Corman was taken in the 80s aswell. From this inspo I created 5 polaroids to go on my board.

I really liked this design of Marilyn Monroe. I liked the newspaper background that this design has. However, instead of having the natural colours, I wanted brighter, bolder colours in my design. I also really liked that this design had a film strip going down the side so I also incorporated this into my photographs.

Completed Panel One Update

My theme for this year is changes throughout the years (1930 vs 1980 vs 2020). My board one focuses on the 1930 aspect of my theme and is now fully completed. For board one, I found it challenging to figure out how I wanted to lay my board out and I trialled a lot of different layouts and was finally happy with the one I settled on. Shown below are some of my plans for my board one and also my final board.

Panel one draft 1

 Panel one draft 1:

So far I have completed my draft of panel 1. My theme is "changes throughout the years" (the 1930s, 1980s, and 2020s). Some of my images are not fully edited yet and there are also some images I would like to change. For my inspiration so far I have used Polina Pakhomova, Fiona Pardington, and Sally Mann.

Inspiration from Polina Pakhomova:

Polina Pakhomova Inspiration
I really like how Polina takes their images and scratches/cuts out the centre of them so you can't see the full detail in the face. I feel like this could incorporate well with my theme of changes throughout the years. Instead of cutting out the face full, I could use an older face take out the centre and then put a younger face in place of that cutout.

Inspiration from Fiona Pardington:

I have used inspiration from Still Life with Wakatipu in a Crystal Carafe, a Sparrow and an Albatross Tail, 2014. I really liked this image and thought it could be a good way to start of each of my boards. I have started of each of my boards with a still life of objects that were used in each specific year. For example, I have used a porcelain doll, a peaky blinder hat (flat cap), hair rollers, marbles, and a smoke pipe.

Inspiration from Sally Mann:

Sally Mann Inspiration
I have used inspiration from Sally Manns photograph called Untitled, At Twelve Series (Jenny and the Bedspread),1984. This image was the image that gave me the idea for my theme. I really liked the look of the olden-day style in her photograph and then from there came up with the idea of doing changes throughout the years. For this image I have recreated the image and then also decided to do an image similar to this but with each of the years. For example in the first half of the image my model is meant to reference the 1930s, the middle of the image references the 1980s, and the last half of the image references the 2020's. I have used different clothing, hair styles and have also edited each section of the image to look different. I really liked how this turned out so I decided to end my board one with these images.

Series and Sequence Folio Layout Activity

Series and Sequence Folio Layout Activity

I was given two different folio boards. Documentary and cultural. I was to rearrange these photos for each board into different series and sequences that I thought would work well together.

For the cultural one, I did two different ones. I picked out images that I thought went well together and placed them into groups. I then decided on what I thought would work well for the start of the board and then the bottom. I ended the board with the girl dancing as I liked that the board ended with motion. The only images of movement are of her dancing which I thought would be nice to end on.

For the documentary one, I decided to start the board off with Maori carvings and then the Marae. As I looked at the images I noticed that the documentary was based on a funeral. I decided the place the images the way a funeral would normally lay out. You arrive, tell stories and memories and then you say goodbye. This is why I ended the board with the burial and family/friends hugging and saying their goodbyes.

These are the results of the activity.

Blue & Golden Hour Photography

 Blue & Golden Hour Photography

Blue hour photography is when the sun is just below the horizon line. A short period before or after sunrise and sunset. It's called blue hour as the indirect sunlight is evenly distributed creating a blue tone to the image. Blue hour usually lasts an hour but may vary depending on when and where the photograph is being shot.

Golden hour is when the sun is low on the horizon. Right before sunrise or sunset. It creates a perfect light in your photograph. It creates a nice warm tone and glows in your image. This is used to create nostalgia and happiness within your images.
